The success of others doesn't take away from yours.

Compassion will always overpower comparison.✨

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
— 2 Timothy 1:7

I felt comparison and self-doubt creep in after one of my close friends told me she got a job offer to move to Europe. Was I happy for her? Of course, I prayed for this when she first told me about it but the other part of me couldn’t help but compare myself and feel like my journey is less than and like I wasn’t doing enough.“The success of others doesn't take away from yours” I kept repeating to myself.

In the midst of feeling this way I also remembered a verse I read in the bible on how insecurity, and comparison are not things that will help us propel. I also took a moment to reflect on the work we are all doing in our lives. I remember speaking to her just a few days before, and we were on the phone for hours, sharing our journeys, and talking about God, our struggles, and our accomplishments. By that time, connecting only confirmed to me how similar we are in the sense that we are on two different paths and in different worlds, but we are both figuring it out.

I love that I had the awareness to question and challenge the thoughts of envy, self-doubt, and comparison taking over. It all reverts to God and His word. It’s crazy that just allowing His word to guide me, using my best judgment, and trying to be the best imperfect version of myself is just enough. Be proud of who you are, but also be proud of those around you, especially the ones you love and who are close to you. You want people who are growing and can teach you, not ones who hold you back, so be grateful and receptive to the wisdom around you.

If you can relate, share it with someone who might need the reminder that their path is different and just as important. Let’s aim to challenge negative thought patterns and continue to lift each other up and celebrate ALL the wins big or small but let’s do it together!

(because let’s be real, it’s more fun and reassuring when you aren’t alone in your journey.)
